The main target customers are mature women with sensitive skin and dry skin, but tolerant skin and mixed oily skin also have potential.
Skin type: Consumers with dry-prone and neutral skin show higher preference for "oil skin care" than the overall average. Preference decreases as skin oiliness increases. Even so, nearly 60% of combination oily skin consumers like "oil skin care", making them potential customers.
Sensitivity level: Consumers with sensitive skin show higher preference for "oil skin care" than the overall average, and preference increases with skin sensitivity. It can be said that the more sensitive the skin, the higher the preference for oil-based skincare products. Over 60% of consumers with tolerant skin also like "oil skin care".
Age group: Preference for "oil skin care" increases with age, but shows a downward trend after 50 (the sample size for people over 50 does not meet the minimum requirement, so the statistical results may be affected). The 26-50 age group shows higher preference than the overall average, meaning mature consumers aged 26-50 prefer "oil skin care"
Gender: Men's skin tends to be oilier, so they are less willing to "apply heavy oil" to their faces. Men (TGI=71.8) are less fond of oil-based skincare products.
Occupation: Beauty industry professionals show high preference for oil-based skincare products (TGI=113.3), proving "oil skin care" is recognized by professionals. As consumers gain more skincare knowledge, their preference for oil-based products may also increase.

Barrier repair and moisturizing are the main efficacy demands of consumers; Antioxidants and brightening the skin color can make it even better.
In terms of consumer expectations, over 70% of consumers expect oil-based skincare products to provide skin barrier repair and moisturization, which are the core demands. Around 60% of consumers also expect soothing and antioxidant benefits from these products.
When comparing consumer expectations with the number of corresponding products on the market, moisturization, antioxidant, and brightening are high-demand but low-supply efficacy categories for oil-based skincare. While moisturization is the foundational benefit, antioxidant and brightening effects can serve as premium selling points.
It is worth noting that consumers have low expectations for oil-based skincare products to remove makeup/sunscreen. However, based on the "like dissolves like" principle, most oil-based skincare products naturally have makeup/sunscreen removal functions (reflected in the large number of such products on the market, with jojoba seed oil as a typical ingredient). Consumers may not be fully aware of this benefit, making it a key area for further education.

Squalane is the star ingredient; Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Camellia Seed Oil are potential ingredients.
From the perspective of consumer preference, over 70% of consumers like squalane, making it a well-deserved star oil ingredient; nearly 60% of consumers like jojoba seed oil; and nearly 50% of consumers like meadowfoam seed oil.
In terms of product count, jojoba seed oil leads by a wide margin, possibly because it is an excellent basic moisturizing ingredient with a relatively moderate raw material price; sweet almond oil and sunflower seed oil rank second and third, both of which are relatively easy to obtain with low raw material costs. In contrast, although squalane is deeply loved by consumers, it does not have the highest product count, which may be related to the availability of its raw materials.
When combining consumer preference for ingredients with the number of corresponding products currently on the market, ingredients with high consumer preference but low product count include meadowfoam seed oil and camellia seed oil, which are potential ingredients. Currently, meadowfoam seed oil products with high consumer discussion and good reputation include the 93/4 Meadowfoam Seed Essence Oil; camellia seed oil products with high consumer discussion and good reputation include林清轩 (Linqingxuan) Camellia Skin Oil.
In contrast, ingredients such as coconut oil, baobab seed oil, marula oil, oat kernel oil, Spanish sage seed oil, ximenia americana seed oil, and European hazelnut oil have low consumer preference and low product count. This does not mean these ingredients have no potential; low preference may stem from insufficient consumer awareness. Brands looking to create hit products with niche ingredients may require relatively high market education costs.
