Vitamin B5 refers to pantothenic acid, a water-soluble vitamin discovered in liver and yeast in 1933. The name "pantothenic acid" comes from the Greek word "pantos," meaning "everywhere," because it occurs naturally in food and plants, as well as in all living cells.
Panthenol is the precursor of pantothenic acid, so it is also called provitamin B5. Only D-panthenol (dextrorotatory panthenol) can be converted into vitamin B5 in the human body. D-panthenol is converted into vitamin B5 in the human body.
Pantothenic acid is unstable and not suitable for direct use in cosmetics, so its precursor, panthenol, is used instead. Panthenol has good skin absorption and is quickly converted into pantothenic acid through oxidation. Pantothenic acid is distributed in cells and converted into acetyl-CoA in epidermal cells. The human body needs vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) to synthesize acetyl-CoA.
Acetyl-CoA participates in reactions related to the body's metabolism in the human body; in other words, it is an essential mediator for maintaining life (maintaining and repairing all cells).
Functions of Panthenol:
1. Moisturizing
Panthenol has a small molecular weight, which can effectively penetrate the stratum corneum, moisturize the stratum corneum of the skin, provide strong moisturizing effects, effectively improve rough skin, and make skin soft without stickiness.
2. Repairing
Stimulates epidermal cell growth, accelerates wound healing, and repairs tissue damage; it is effective for eczema, sunburn, and diaper rash in infants. It has been reported in the literature that containing 5% panthenol ointment can accelerate wound healing by 30%.
Core component -- hydroxypropylpiperazine ethanesulfonic acid
