Vitamin E comprises eight related fat-soluble compounds naturally found in nature: four tocopherols and four tocotrienols (-α, -β, -γ, -δ). In the human body, only α-tocopherol is uniquely present; it is stored primarily in the liver. Consequently, our bodies and skin have the highest concentrations of α-tocopherol. Other forms of vitamin E are rapidly metabolized, resulting in much lower concentrations throughout the body. For this reason, most scientific data on vitamin E are based on α-tocopherol.
